Website chat embed
Put an Appricity agent on your own website. Visitors ask questions in a chat panel and get answers from your knowledge, in your brand, at any hour.
What does a visitor see?
A chat button in the bottom-right or bottom-left corner of the page that opens a chat panel. You choose whether the chat starts closed, open or minimised, and the text on its button ("Chat with us" by default). The panel uses your brand pack's logo, colours and tone.
What does the agent do in the chat?
It answers from your knowledge, framed by the role surface you bind the embed to. The refusal policy applies just as it does everywhere else. Citations are hidden from visitors; answers read naturally.
How do I add it to my site?
- Open Surfaces → Embeds and create one: give it a name, choose a role surface and, optionally, a brand pack (otherwise your default is used).
- Under Allowed origins, list the website addresses it may run on.
- Set its behaviour: position and initial state.
- Copy snippet and paste it into your site's pages, before the closing body tag.
- Use Preview widget to try it.
The snippet is designed to be pasted once and left alone: improvements reach your site without you changing it.
What stops another site from using my snippet?
The allowed origins list. A browser on a site that isn't on your list can't start a chat. This prevents other websites from reusing your embed; it isn't a login, and anonymous visitors on your own site can always chat.
If a snippet is ever copied somewhere it shouldn't be, Regenerate slug issues a new identifier and every existing copy of the old snippet stops working, including yours until you replace it.
How do I stop it being overloaded?
Each embed has limits, with recommended values:
- requests per website per hour (200);
- messages per visitor session (40);
- new conversations per day (300).
Leave a field empty to use the recommendation, or lower it.
Where do website conversations go?
Into Conversations, under the Website filter, alongside every other channel, so your team can read them.
Can I turn it off without editing my site?
Yes. Untick Active on the embed and the chat stops appearing, without touching your pages. Tick it again to bring it back.
